Breckenridge Fun During Fall

Breckenridge is a ski and snowboard town and that claim is quite certain. Winter holds the ultimate adventure in Breckenridge and it’s easy to see why once you see how the snow fills the mountain and Breckenridge’s four peaks buzz with numerous skiers and snowboarders. Summer is also a great time for a vacation in Breckenridge as the town is made alive by festive events and visitors who can’t get enough of the warm sunshine. However, spring and fall offer much-needed down time that finds the town a bit less crowded but no less thrilling. If you’re considering a trip to Breckenridge, think about choosing fall season as the time to go there.

Summit County is composed of more than two hundred miles of off-road trails and forty miles of developed roads. Fall is an amazing time for biking as the trails are usually less crowded, not to mention that the changing aspen leaves provide for a lovely panorama. The temperature in the fall is just right that it’s a perfect day for lots of outdoor activities. Breckenridge Ski Resort offers a range of trails for skiers and boarders of all levels of experience. Some of these trails can be accessed by the Colorado Superchair lift on Peak 8 but if you want to just ride around town, roadsides offer views of Lake Dillon, Ten Mile Creek and many other must-see Summit County spots. Most if not all trails are only short distances to many Breckenridge condos and vacation rentals so biking is absolutely convenient.

The Blue River, the Colorado, Williams Fork, and the South Platte are easily accessible from Breckenridge and they give great waters for fly fishing. Local businesses offer tours not only to these four Gold Medal Rivers but to private waters closed to the public as well. You will be provided with rods, tackle, clothing and deliberate instructions on how you can easily catch a trophy-size brown trout, besides rainbows, cutthroats, and brooks.

Comparable to mountain biking, fall is a perfect hiking season as the trails are normally less crowded. While the wildflowers are no longer in their prime, the gentian plant is in full bloom and these fall plants display an autumn palette of dazzling colors that range in red, orange and gold. You might want to check out Wheeler National Recreation Trail or Loveland Pass West for prime color spotting. Moreover, fall is the ideal aspen season in Colorodo so better keep your eyes open for sightings of aspen groves on just about any hike around Breckenridge.

Most Breckenridge vacation rentals can be found near Main Street where shopping and dining are easily accessible. While Breckenridge is definitely a town for great outdoor adventure, it also gives shopping and dining a new perspective. Main Street boasts endless rows of bars, restaurants, clothing stores, and art galleries, whereas neighboring Silverthorne makes for a fine outlet shopping.

During the fall season, we usually like to stay indoors without feeling sorry that we are missing out on the summer sun or the winter snow. It is the perfect season to explore more of Breckenridge’s historic and cultural side. The Barney Ford House Museum and the Carter Museum are two of the more popular museum stops in town that are both just within walking distance from Main Street and central Breckenridge accommodations.

November is usually when the Breckenridge Ski Resort opens for the season. In the couple of months that indicate the start of the winter season, many Breckenridge condos and vacation rentals offer affordable off-season rates. Fall is a wonderful opportunity to pack your bags and set off on a weekend trip to Breckenridge without actually spending much.

Breckenridge will give anyone extraordinary adventure whatever season it is they decide to visit. Without lacking things to do around town, Breckenridge is not like other Colorado ski towns that seem to go empty and quiet during the off-season. If you haven’t planned your family vacation yet, it’s probably time to consider going to Breckenridge this fall to experience unforgettable fun and adventure.
